WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -
The women's tennis team (14-5) fell to in-state rival, William & Mary 5-2 Saturday in Williamsburg. The Spiders travel to Pittsburgh next weekend for the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
In singles action, No. 1 Pamela Duran defeated Katarina Zoricic, 1-2, retire and No. 5 Joanna Matuszczyk defeated Barbara Zidek, 6-4, 6-3.
"W&M showed why they are a perennial nationally-ranked team," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "We played some good tennis but they stepped up when we put the pressure on them. Our team is still playing well though. This will be good tune up for our Atlantic 10 Championships next weekend. Joanna played a tough match after being sick most of the week."
In doubles point, Richmond came away with a victory at the No. 3 spot by default. The Spiders enter next week's Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship as the heavy favorite. Match times are TBD.
