UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond track & field rolls into Durham, N.C. this weekend for the Duke Invitational, which is set for Friday and Saturday. The Spiders are fresh off the Fred Hardy Invitational last weekend.
Last weekend saw a number of impressive performances for Richmond, highlighted by the school record run from junior Amy Van Alstine in the 3,000m. Van Alstine's time of 9:50.10 broke the 29-year old mark of 9:53.69 set by Debroah Snaggs in 1980.
Nicol Traynor and Sean Welsh each won the 1,500m events last weekend, while freshmen Beth Kelly and Meaghan McGovern won the 5,000m and hammer throw, respectively.
Last season at the Duke Invitational, Andrew Benford captured the gold in the 3,000m and Matt Llano cruised to a win in the 5,000m. Monica Howard broke her own school record in the discus.
Following the Duke Invitational, the Spiders are at the University of Virginia's meet next weekend.
