Hofstra Head Coach Dave Cohen
Opening Statement:
"We were out-coached and out-played today. This process starts with coaching. We did not come out very disciplined. We shouldn't have allowed to the game to get as out of control as we did. "
Defending the running game:
"We try to be balanced. Defending the run is the primary goal for the defense. We don't want to give up the big pass. Unfortunately for us, we didn't do a very good job at that today. "
Problems of the mismatch:
"They were dominant up front. They were well-coached and disciplined. It's obvious they're very good at what they do. We were a bit overwhelmed with their size. They (Richmond) were very successful today."
"I'm more concerned with our lack of discipline. We will go to the tape tomorrow to see what areas need to be improved upon. We can't continue to make the same mistakes that we made today. We'll look at our areas of coaching first then we'll focus on teaching the players."
On the CAA Football North Division vs. South Division:
"I've been a part of this league since 1994. There have definitely been more playoff teams that come out of the South Division. My hat goes off to New Hampshire with what they've done with their program recently, but in the last 15 years there have been more teams from the South that have had success. "
Richmond Head Coach Mike London
Opening Statement:
"We played hard. We capitalized on our points. We always look to improve in areas. The defense was tremendous today. We'll go back to the drawing board as we move forward with VMI next week. "
On turning turnovers into points:
"It was huge to get the turnovers. It's a great thing to see the things you preach in practice come to fruition in games. Our offense was great managing the game and getting the ball to the playmakers. The significance of the turnovers was huge. We had a turning of the tide with possessions that was good. Again, we're looking to improve every week. We can't celebrate too much. We need to keep moving forward as a team. "
On the defensive line:
"What a veteran group of guys. They maintained their group responsibilities assignment-wise. The four of them did a great job. There's no substitute for an experienced first line."
On the play of senior DE Nick Battle:
"Nick has been improving every week. He knows it's his time now and he's ready."
On the student-body support:
"The student turnout was great. The guys play harder to please the fans. Hats off to our supporters, especially the freshman class. It's great to have this much school spirit. I definitely hope the Spider Faithful keeps it up for VMI next week."
Senior DE Nick Battle
"It feels pretty good. It all comes full circle. We played hard in the first half and we just continued that into the second half. The level of excitement after turnovers really added fuel to our fire. The defense kept our foot on the pedal. We continued to go full speed the whole time.
Senior QB Eric Ward
On whether or not this was the best game of his career:
"I don't think so. Our offense as a whole played really well. We just need to keep practicing and get ready for our next game."
On team's motivation after first turnover:
"They (the defense) gave us the ball and I just said to the huddle `Ok let's turn this into a touchdown'. Then we kicked it into gear."
On throwing vs. running the ball:
"It was just the progression of the plays. The offensive line did a great job of opening holes for our running backs. Our running backs did a great job of running the ball. "
Senior OG Chris Kondorossy
On his confidence in the running game:
"I would say we did a pretty good job. We're just taking it one week at a time. We try to make holes for the running backs. Our goal is to get better every week."
