UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The Richmond women's soccer team hosts the Fordham Rams Friday night at 7 p.m. at Ukrop Park in the A-10 conference opener for both teams.
Richmond is coming off a 2-0 weekend after notching wins over Davidson and Longwood. Freshman Shondel Archer scored her team-leading fifth goal and junior Kristy Schmitt netted her first collegiate score in the 2-0 Longwood victory Sunday night at Ukrop Park. Archer, who has tallied four goals in the past five games, was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week.
"The team is really excited to be starting A-10 Conference play," said head coach Peter Albright. "Every game is a battle, and Fordham is no exception. They have the 2008 A-10 Defensive player of the year returning this fall, and Kate McDermott is certainly one of the best midfielders in the league. They play an aggressive attacking style and are always dangerous. I expect a great game."
Richmond leads the series, 6-1-1 with the last win coming in 2006. Fordham is coming off its first victory of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Manhattan.
The Spiders travel to Philadelphia Sunday to face the La Salle Explorers in their first conference road trip. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
