UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The Spiders (4-5-2, 1-0-1) host GW (8-3-0, 2-0-0) in a key A-10 contest Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Ukrop Park in the first game of a doubleheader with the men's team. The men kick-off against the Colonials at 7:30 p.m.
Richmond started its conference play with a bang last weekend, as the Spiders came-from-behind to down Saint Joe's 2-1 in overtime Friday. Freshman phenom Becca Wann led the Spiders with the game-tying goal (86th minute) and game-winnning tally (99th minute) to secure the win.
The Spiders battled rival Temple to a 1-1 draw in double overtime Sunday, with Wann again providing the score for the Spiders.
Wann was awarded for her efforts over the weekend by garnering A-10 Player of the Week honors. Wann leads the Spiders in goals (7), points (14) and shots (45). Wann is only 19 shots away from cracking Richmond's top-5 list for shots in a single season. Wann also leads the team in game-winning goals with three.
The Spiders have won the past three meetings against the Colonials and look to move up in the A-10 standings. Richmond is currently alone in fourth place but could serve GW, one of three remaining unbeaten teams, its first conference loss.
After playing six consecutive home games at Ukrop Park, the Spiders travel to four-straight A-10 opponents. Richmond returns to Ukrop Park Oct. 29 with a 7:00 p.m. game against Duquesne.
