UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
A George Washington goal in the 96th minute sunk Richmond, 1-0, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Ukrop Park.
GW's Alex Neal fed a pass to Adriana Moya, who flicked the ball into the net from close range to seal the game-winner. Richmond, playing without three starters, including top scorer and A-10 Player of the Week Becca Wann, tallied 12 shots to the Colonials' nine for the game.
GW seemed to seize momentum towards the end of the game with breakaways toward the goal, but were whistled back five times due to offsides.
The best look the Spiders saw on goal was a laser by freshman Jensen Smith in the 65th minute that hit the crossbar and then was knocked out of Colonial territory. Smith, who led Richmond all game with her gusty play, led all Spiders with three shots. Six other teammates recorded tries.
The Spiders play at Saint Louis on Friday at 8:00 p.m.
