UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Kevin Anderson was named A-10 Player of the Week after leading the Spiders to the Chicago Invitational Challenge title with 28 points in a victory over No. 8 Purdue on Saturday.
Anderson, who is on the Wooden Award and Naismith Award Preseason Top-50 Lists, averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in leading Richmond to a perfect 3-0 week.
Anderson made 9-of-20 field goals for a season-high 28 points in the win over No. 8 Purdue, Richmond's fifth victory in the last six games against a ranked foe. He is averaging 25.4 points per game in the last five victories vs. ranked teams, including 28.0 points per game in the last three.
Anderson now has 30 career 20-point games and has reached double-figures in scoring 90 times in his four-year career at Richmond.
The Atlanta, Ga., native opened the week with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes of action as Richmond held Southern to nine first-half points in an 81-40 rout. Anderson followed that performance with a 15-point, five assist effort in a semifinal victory over Wright State in the Chicago Invitational.
For the week, Anderson shot .436 from the floor and .429 from three-point range. He also put together a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio.
This is the fifth Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Award for the two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection. Anderson was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week six times as a freshman. Only four Atlantic 10 Players in league history have won the award more times.
The Atlanta, Ga. native is looking to become the first player in Atlantic 10 history to win Atlantic 10 Rookie/Freshman of the Year and Atlantic 10 Player of the Year twice.
