THE TEAM
Richmond improved to 8-2 on the season, the fourth-best 10-game start in school history and the second-best start since the 1934-35 season (76 seasons). Only the 1926-27 (10-0), 1934-35 (10-0) and 1985-86 (9-1) teams have started better than 8-2. This is the 16th time in 99 seasons that the Spiders have started 8-2, but only the fourth time since 1954-55.
The Spiders improved to 5-0 at home this season and have won 22 of the last 23 games at home, including 10 straight.
Richmond led by 30 in the second half, the fourth time in five home games that the Spiders have led by 28 points or more. The Spiders have led by 20 in all five home games.
Seven of Richmond's eight victories have come by double-figures.
Richmond entered the game shooting 50.9 percent from the field, which ranked 10th in the nation, and the Spiders shot 55.1 percent from the field Saturday night. THE PLAYERS
Senior Kevin Anderson scored 21 points to move into a tie for fifth on Richmond's all-time scoring list with John Schweitz at 1,723 career points. Anderson needs just four points to tie former teammate David Gonzalvez for fourth on Richmond's all-time career scoring list. With seven assists, Anderson has 328 career assists and moved into seventh on Richmond's all-time career assists list, passing Kelvin Johnson (324). Anderson had one steal, giving him 177 for his career, which ranks fourth on Richmond's career list. Saturday was Anderson's 93rd-career double-figure scoring game, including his 86th in the last 92 games.
Senior Justin Harper scored 16 points for his 42nd-career double-figure scoring game, including his 16th in the last 20 games. Harper needs just 65 points to become the 40th Spider men's player to reach 1,000 career points. With one block Saturday, Harper is in sole possession of 11th on Richmond's all-time career list, needing four blocks to tie Jim Springer for 10th.
Sophomore Darien Brothers scored 12 points for his fourth-career double-figure scoring game, all coming in the last seven games.
Junior Darrius Garrett blocked five shots to give him 15 blocks in the last three games. Garrett moved into eighth on Richmond's all-time career blocks list with 87, passing Johnny Newman (84).
Senior Dan Geriot scored five points to move into a tie for 27th on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,127 career points. Geriot passed Greg Steveson (1,125) for 26th and is tied with John Telepo for 27th.
