TOWSON, Md. -
In the last game before the holiday break, Richmond (8-4) took no prisoners as it rolled past Towson (5-5), 66-50, Wednesday night at Towson Center. The win marked Richmond's fourth in a row, with all victories coming against CAA foes.
Towson opened with the game's first score, but it would be the only lead it would hold. The much-quicker Richmond wasted little time dispatching the Tigers, going on a 16-0 run in the game's first six minutes. Brittani Shells jumpstarted the scoring onslaught with a jumper in the lane and the Spiders cruised from there.
Richmond scored 16 points off Towson turnovers and had 13 bench points.
The Spiders did not let up in the opening minutes, going on a 6-0 run to start the second half. Richmond led by as many as 33 at the 13:09 mark.
Richmond shot 52 percent from the game (26-for-50) and outrebounded the Tigers 39-29. Richmond also recorded 12 assists and 12 steals.
Shells paced Richmond with her 10th team-leading performance at 17 points and tied a career-high with six assists. Shells previously set her career-high against Radford last December.
Goring was one rebound shy of notching her third-straight double-digit rebounding game. Goring finished with six points and nine boards. Abby Oliver followed Shells with 12 points off 4-for-7 shooting from the field.
Richmond's bench was impressive, spearheaded by the efforts of Kristina Puthoff-King and recorded 21 points for the game. Okoro finished with seven points, while Puthoff-King added six. Ten Spiders recorded points in the scoring column.
The Spiders return to action Dec. 28 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Boston University.
