THE LATEST
The Spiders return home after a 35-day stretch of playing just one home game. Richmond is 5-0 at home and has won 22 of the last 23 games in the Robins Center, including 10-straight. Richmond has led by 20 points in all 5 home games this season and by 28 points in 4 of the 5 home games.
Richmond has won 3 of 4 games against BCS conference teams this season and will be looking to match the 1985-86 team (Providence, Wake Forest, Stanford, Virginia) for most wins against the Power 6 conferences. The Spiders have won 7 of the last 10 games against teams from a BCS conference. Chris Mooney has 12 wins over BCS conference teams in 7 years as a D-I head coach, including 10 in 7 seasons at Richmond. The Spiders have defeated a team from all 6 BCS conferences (Pac-10, Big 10, ACC, Big East, Big 12 and SEC) in Mooney's tenure.
The Spiders are looking to get off to the best 14 game start since the 1987-88 season. A win Wednesday would match the Spiders' 3rd best start in 76 years, behind only the 1985-86 team (13-1) and the 1987-88 team (12-2). A win would match the 1953-54 and 1954-55 teams for the 5th best start in school history.
Kevin Anderson, the 2010 A-10 Player of Year and AP Honorable Mention pick, moved into 4th on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,761 points, having passed former teammate David Gonzalvez (1,727). Anderson also ranks 3rd in steals (182), having passed Hall of Famer John Davis on Sunday. Anderson is 5th in field goals (629) and 7th in assists (337), needing 7 assists to tie Gerald Jarmon for 6th.
Senior Justin Harper is shooting 54.7 percent from the field (76-of-139), which ranks 41st in the nation and he is shooting 48.1 percent from three (26-of-54). A season-high 24 points in the win over Seton Hall, when he made 6-of-8 threes, brought the 6-foot-10 forward within 9 points of reaching 1,000 for his career.
Kevin Anderson was named a nominee for the Bob Cousy Award for the nation's top point guard last week. Anderson is averaging 16.1 points per game and 3.8 assists through the first 13 games. Anderson was already named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top-50 List, Naismith Preseason Top-50 List and is one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
Richmond is shooting 48.8% on the season, which leads the A-10 and is 8th in the country. The Spiders are 12th in the nation in three-point FG% at 41.5 percent. Richmond is 28th in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (1.30) and 14th in the nation in three-point field goal defense (27.3). and 33rd in scoring defense (59.4).
