THE TEAM
Richmond improved to 2-0 against BCS conference teams this season and has won six of the last eight games against teams from a BCS conference. Head coach Chris Mooney has 11 wins over BCS conference teams in seven years as a Division I head coach, including nine in six seasons at Richmond. The Spiders have now defeated a team from all six BCS conferences (Pac-10, Big 10, ACC, Big East, Big 12 and SEC) in Mooney's tenure.
Richmond blocked a season-high nine shots against Arizona State.
The Spiders held Arizona State to 34.5 percent shooting, the fifth opponent that Richmond has held under 35 percent shooting this season. Richmond is holding opponents 37.4 percent shooting, which ranks 16th in the nation.
The Spiders shot 49.0 percent from the field, the seventh time in nine games that Richmond has shot at least 49 percent from the field.
Richmond improved to 2-0 against Arizona State with the two victories coming 23 years apart to the day.
THE PLAYERS
Senior Justin Harper scored a season-high 23 points for his 41st-career double-figure scoring game, including his 15th in the last 19 games and his fifth-career 20-point game. Harper passed 900 points for his career, and now needs 81 points to become the 40th Spider to reach 1,000 points. Harper made 10-of-14 field goals and 3-of-4 three-pointers. He is shooting 61.7 percent from the field (50-of-81) and 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from three.
Senior Kevin Anderson scored 14 points got hid 92nd-career double-figure scoring game, including his eighth in nine games this season and his 85th in the last 91 games. Anderson is sixth on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,702 career points. He had two steals, which gives him 176 for his career, passing teammates Ryan Butler (174) and David Gonzalvez (175) to move into fifth on Richmond's all-time steals list. Anderson has made 103 consecutive starts, which is tied for the longest consecutive streak in the nation.
Senior Greg Stevenson for 28th and five points behind John Telepo for 27th.
Junior Darrius Garrett blocked a season-high six shots against Arizona State, passing Jim Springer for ninth on Richmond's all-time blocks list with 82, two blocks behind Johnny Newman for eighth. Garrett has 17 blocks this season.
