Men's Golf Opens Spring With 11th-Place Finish At Wexford Plantation

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Richmond opened the spring season tying for 11th at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, played Monday and Tuesday at Wexford Plantation.
The Spiders shot a 306 in Monday's first round and carded a 12-over 300 in Tuesday's second and final round to finish at 606, four shots out of 10th place on the par-72, 6,828-yard course.
Richmond was coming off a highly successful fall season with four top-3 finishes in five tournaments, including a pair of runner-up finishes at the Missouri Tiger Invitational and Big 5 Invitational and a tournament title at the Frank Landrey Invitational.
"This was the first tournament of the spring and we were a little rusty," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We had some solid rounds, but we hope to be more consistent."
Senior Robert Lindstrom and freshman Nick Austin tied for 33rd at 7-over-par 151 to lead the Spiders. Lindstrom shot a 78 in the opening round and a 1-over 73 in the final round. Austin shot a 77 on Monday and a 2-over 74 on Tuesday.
Junior Sam Beach tied for 48th at 154, shooting an even-par 72 on Monday and an 82 on Tuesday. Freshman Daniel Walker and junior Michael Shrader tied for 64th at 157. Walker shot a 79 and 78, while Shrader followed an 82 with a 3-over 75.
The Spiders will play at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, March 12-14 at Pinehurst.
