UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
The annual UR Women's Soccer Alumni game held on Saturday was a smashing success. About 20 of Richmond's finest, great players from the 14 past seasons of UR Soccer, came back to battle the varsity. Carrie Holland opened the scoring with a 40 yard bomb, bringing back memories of her lethal strike against Tennessee in 2003.
"This was a wonderful event," said head coach Peter Albright. "It was great to see all of the faces from the past. The skills were still there, although the motors were a little rusty. All in all, the alums showed good form and played a fun and spirited game. We are already looking forward to the 15th reunion next spring".
Eileen "Shim" Jacxsens, now a mom, made an amazing point blank save on Kris Lescalleet to keep the Spiders at bay. The varsity tied the match in the closing minutes on a lovely chip by LeighAnne Baxter, but the Alums stole the game back on free kick by Sarah Hilt as time expired.
Kathryn Spiker and Courtney Morgan, players from the inaugural 1996 season, were on hand, joined by players from each generation of Spider Alums. Among the stellar performers were Hillary Prince, Annette Isham, Margaux Lochmiller, Jessie Wolfe, Brooke Binswanger, Meghan Ogilvie Kate Rutkowski, Jenny Ruhe, Kelsey Rdzanek, Mairead Gordon, Chris Wrublesky, Anne Reiser, Brooke Sands Whitney Sikes and Nicole Froman.
