Spiders Help Raise $1,700 For ASK Foundation At Tuckahoe Charity Game

RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond men's basketball program helped raised over $1,700 for the ASK Foundation in a charity game at Tuckahoe Middle School on Thursday night.
This was the third-straight year that the Spiders participated in a charity game at Tuckahoe Middle School, but the first that the proceeds went to the ASK Foundation, which serves as a leading source of support for children with cancer and their families.
The Spiders have helped raise over $6,100 from the three charity games at Tuckahoe Middle School.
The past two years, proceeds from the charity game went to the Arthritis Foundation in the name of Tuckahoe student Dymond Carle. In 2008, the NCAA granted a special one-time waiver that allowed current Richmond players to participate in the game against Tuckahoe faculty.
Richmond's coaching staff and players that have exhausted their eligibility, such as senior David Gonzalvez and former Spider Duncan McLean, played in Thursday's game.
Gonzalvez had about 10 dunks in the game, while head coach Chris Mooney also had a dunk on a fastbreak.
The honorary guests at this year's game were two students at Tuckahoe who are battling cancer, Rachel and Kelsey. The Spiders presented Rachel and Kelsey with autographed basketballs at halftime and Rachel accepted in invitation to play with the Spiders in the second half and made two baskets, drawing a huge ovation from the crowd.
Richmond's current players spent a half hour before the game signing autographs for a long line of Tuckahoe Middle students and their families.
