MORGANTON, N.C. - Seniors Lauren Folgosa and Anne Sprick each shot 1-over-par 73s and freshman Courtney Rousse shot a 2-over 74 as the Richmond women's golf team carded the second-lowest round in school history Tuesday to finish fourth at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
The Spiders shot a 317 in the first round, but came back with a 296 in the second round. That was the second-lowest round in school history behind a 294 at the Taco Bell Intercollegiate in the fall of 2004.
"Today everyone was just very positive, went out with our mental game goals and knew exactly what we wanted to do," Folgosa said. "Everyone was really committed to the process and we weren't worried about the outcome. I think that's how we got to the outcome that we did."
With a 613, Richmond finished one shot behind third-place Western Carolina and three shots behind runner-up Appalachian State. Elon won the tournament with a 607.

"I'm so proud of the girls," Richmond first-year coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. "Our two seniors Lauren and Anne played tremendous today. We're going to keep working on our weaknesses, improving their short games and focusing on taking this effort into the conference championship."
The Spiders finished five shots ahead of conference rival William & Mary, who they will be going toe-to-toe with at the 2010 CAA Championship, April 16-18 at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
"This was definitely a positive thing to happen now, especially beating William & Mary," Folgosa said. "They have been consistently beating us all year, but we were able to give them wake-up call that we are a presence to reckon with and that we can put up low numbers. We knew we were good before, but now we really know. Now this just motivates us to keep those numbers, it motivates us through next couple weeks to practice our weaknesses."
Rousse led the Spiders with a seventh-place finish at 6-over-par 150, one shot out of fifth place, two shots out of fourth and three stokes out of third. Rousse shot a 4-over 76 in Monday's opening round and the 2-over 74 in Tuesday's final round.

"It was finally good to put two rounds together," Rousse said. "I've had low rounds, but I've had trouble backing them up. Yesterday I hit 15 greens, today I hit about the same amount, but I struggled putting. Even though my score was better, I missed quite a few four and five foot putts. My irons were solid and I feel like I'm gaining distance on my driver, which helps."
"She's been working really hard on her game," Hinton said. "She made swing changes in all areas and she's giving it all she has."
Sprick tied for 12th at 8-over 152, carding an opening round 79 and her season-low 1-over 73 in the second round.
"I feel like we always knew we could do it," Sprick said. "We're used to events where one or two of us plays well, but not everyone. Today we were just all on. We've all been working very hard, especially on chipping and putting. It's really exciting, it's something that definitely gives us that extra boast we need. It gives us a new mentality that we can win conference and we can put together some rounds."
Folgosa tied for 25th at 11-over 155. Folgosa shot an 82 in the first round and her 1-over 73 in the final round matched a career-low score.
Junior Jillian Fraccola tied for 27th at 156 (80-76) and junior Christina Gray tied for 59th at 165 (83-82).
This was the Spiders' final tune-up before the 2010 CAA Championship, to be held April 16-18 at the Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
