Richmond is on the road for the first time in conference play this season with a three-game series at Massachusetts that begins Friday at 3 p.m. in Amherst, Mass.
Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. with Sunday's finale beginning at 12 p.m. Live video and Gametracker coverage off all three games is available at RichmondSpiders.com.
Junior LF Billy Barber, who brings a career-long 16-game hitting streak into the weekend, entered the week eighth in the A-10 in hitting, fifth in home runs, sixth in RBI, second in on-base pct. and fourth in steals. On the mound, he was tied for the A-10 lead in appearances and third in saves.
Sophomore SS Adam McConnell, who leads the team in stolen bases, has hit safely in seven-consecutive games. He's hitting .379 over that span and upped his average to .267 for the season. He's ninth all-time at UR with 44 steals.
For the sixth time this season, Richmond posted a come-from-behind victory as the offense scored four times in the eighth inning to win at cross-town rival VCU Tuesday night, 8-6. Billy Barber had three hits, three RBI (including the game-winner) and pitched two scoreless innings on the mound for his fourth save.
The Spiders are 10-1 this season when the offense draws more walks than strikeouts. On the flip side, Richmond is 4-12 when striking out more than it walks.
Following the Massachusetts series, Richmond is back at Pitt Field to host VCU in the second installment of the Black & Blue Baseball Classic presented by Farm Bureau Insurance. First pitch is 3 p.m. and the game is live on ESPN 950 in Richmond.
