Baxter's Free Kick Lifts Richmond Over American, 1-0

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Sophomore LeighAnne Baxter lasered a free kick in the 59th minute to lift the Spiders over American, 1-0, Friday night at Ukrop Park.
Richmond's Sarah Scheurich was tripped right outside of the box which set up the Baxter score. Baxter's kick was spot-on as it lifted over the American defensive wall and into the upper right corner of the net to secure the game-winner.
The Spiders were in control from first whistle, overpowering the Eagle defense with a 9-1 shot advantage in the first half. Richmond's back line was solid, led by Kristin Lescalleet consistent play.
Richmond continued its control into the second half, outshooting the Eagles 5-3 to own a 14-4 shot edge for the game.
American goalkeeper Arianna Efstathiou was kept busy, fending off eight Richmond tries. The Spiders also owned a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
