Delaware Head Coach K.C. Keller:
Opening statement:
"First, let me compliment you on this incredible facility. It's very impressive. As soon as we walked into the stadium all the kids and coaches were very impressed. You did a nice job. Played a heck of a game. We really hadn't faced a whole lot of adversity yet this year. We had big leads going into half-time and we stumbled coming out at half-time and I thought we did a good job this week of just kind of playing and taking the game over. I think our conditioning showed; not that they weren't in good shape, but we are in great shape. You know it was great having Devlin back. We really haven't had to throw the ball most of the year because we've gotten in games where we've been able to run the ball pretty effectively and Pat really had a heck of a day... It was a heck of a football game. I think it was two great football teams playing each other."
Fitness factor:
"Our kids have really trained for this, and I think we are maybe a little fresher because we've been able to get our kids out of ballgames at halftime. We haven't played a lot of football past the third quarter the first few weeks, so I think that was part of it... that we are in pretty good shape, but also we are able to stay healthy. Also, we are rotating maybe eight or nine defensive lineman and that's a main part of it..."
Following the first scoring drive:
"I told the offensive line, `I'm sending a message... I'm sending a message, you know, I believe we can get this. Let's go.' I had a lot of belief in those guys and I think they proved me out... Richmond did a great job. They moved the front and we didn't pick it up well. They knocked us back for a two-yard loss and that was a really big play in the second quarter because we were going to go up 20 to nothing and all of the sudden we missed a field goal, then they go down and score and all of the sudden it's a seven-point ball game again. So those are the swings that you just have to manage and I think our kids did a pretty good job managing that."
Richmond Head Coach Latrell Scott:
Opening statement:
"Well, first of all hats off to Coach Keller and the Delaware team. We knew it was a good football team coming in with a great quarterback and a really great running back. They imposed their will on us in the second half."
Difference in the last quarter/ half:
"They ran it and we didn't tackle. We couldn't get them off the field and I think offensively we didn't convert third downs that we converted last week. I think we have to credit those guys for doing that. For us as a staff, we have to make sure that we come up with the best game plan as possible and put our kids in the best situation to win."
On Tre Gray not playing the second half:
"Tre was a game-time decision. He came out today, and he tried to play. He got a half of football. It's my job to have my player's best interests at heart, and I didn't want Tre to further injure himself so I pulled him the second half. "
On Jovan Smith's performance:
"Jovan played well. He was a young man that had a summer for us. He had been banged up the previous two few weeks, and we got him some touch today, and I think obviously we see what Jovan Smith can do for us down the stretch."
Confidence in keeping Jovan Smith in after his fumble:
"I've got a lot of confidence in all my players, and guys make mistakes. I think me proving to these guys that I trust them and if you make a mistake it doesn't mean the end of your day."
Red shirt senior linebacker Patrick Weldon:
Delaware's performance, specifically freshman running back Andrew Pierce:
"He's a great player, there's no question about it. They've got a great offense and you've got to give credit to their offensive line. Very physical... Andrew Pierce, he knows how to find the hole and he's a good runner."
On Delaware QB Patrick Devlin:
"He's a great quarterback. That was evident today in his decision-making and the plays he's able to make out there on the field. He's a very good passer, very poised in the pocket, and we just weren't able to come up with the plays we needed today."
On Delaware being difficult to defend:
"I think it's a combination of everything. You know, assignment sound and they were just making the plays. They did that better today better than we were able to."
Mentality after the loss:
"It's obviously tough to lose like this, but the true measure of a team is how they face adversity. This is something we have to go into this next week, put behind us, prepare for our next game and move on."
Red shirt senior wide receiver Kevin Grayson:
On difficulty without all wide receivers healthy:
"It's hard anytime you go into a game and you don't have your three starting receivers healthy, but we go in with the mentality that it's the next man up. You can't rely on those three guys the whole season to do everything for you, so the younger guys have to step up. At practice we'll get it covered and next week there will be a different receiving core. "
On Javon Smith's performance:
"We knew he was going to do great things. As long as we go out there and block for him, he will continue to do great things down the stretch."
Taking from this game into the CAA season:
"It's definitely frustrating when you are at home and it's a conference game, but we've been in this situation before. Any conference championship we won or national championship we won, we didn't go undefeated in conference. You drop one game, you bounce back, you make sure you don't lose another one."
