
Men's Golf Finishes Fourth, Austin Takes Sixth At VCU Shootout

MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. - Sophomore Nick Austin finished sixth at 2-under-par 214 and the Richmond men's golf team took fourth out of 14 teams at the VCU Shootout, played Monday and Tuesday at Hermitage Country Club.
The Spiders finished with a 6-over 870 (287-287-296) to finish two shots behind third-place East Carolina and seven shots behind runner-up Wake Forest. UNC-Wilmington won the tournament for the second-straight year with an 862.
Austin followed up a pair of even-par 72s on Monday with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday to post his first collegiate top-10 finish.
Senior Michael Shrader finished at even-par 216 (71-73-72) to tie for 10th, his fifth top-10 finish of his career. Senior Sam Beach tied for 14th at 1-over 217, shooting a 77 on Tuesday after a pair of 2-under 70s on Monday.
Freshman Jack Wilkes tied for 49th at 226 (77-72-77) and junior Brad Miller tied for 53rd at 227 (74-75-78). Junior Jack Lessing finished 78th playing as an individual.
The Spiders return to action Oct. 11-12, hosting the Richmond Intercollegiate at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian.
