
Austin, Spiders Hold Lead Entering Final Round Of Richmond Intercollegiate

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - Sophomore Nick Austin has a one-shot lead and the Spider men's golf team is also in first place after two rounds of the Richmond Intercollegiate, played Monday at Independence Golf Club.
Richmond sits at 14-under-par 562, six shots ahead a second-place tie between Longwood and James Madison entering Tuesday morning's final round on the par-72, 7,127-yard course.
The Spiders shot a 5-under 283 in the first round and a 9-under 279 in the second round, which is the second lowest team score in Richmond golf history.
Austin carded a 6-under-par 66 in the first round, which tied for the second-lowest round in school history. He came back with a 1-under-par 71 in the second round to sit at 7-under 137.
Longwood's Michael Young is one shot back at 138 (69-69), while Georgetown's Taylor Hall and James Madison's Ryan Vince are tied for third at 139.
Richmond senior Sam Beach is tied for fifth at 4-under 140. Beach shot a 3-under 69 in the first round and 1-under 71 in the afternoon round. Senior Michael Shrader is tied for ninth at 2-under 142.
Shrader shot a 3-over 75 in the first round and started 3-over after the first three holes in the second round, but battled back to finish at 5-under-par 67, tied for the fourth-lowest score (-5) in school history.
Richmond junior Brad Miller is tied for 16th at even-par 144 (73-71) and sophomore Daniel Walker is tied for 20th at 146, following an opening round 76 with a 2-under 70 in the second round.
Playing as individuals, freshman Jack Wilkes is tied for 41st at 151 (77-74) and junior Jack Lessing is tied for 55th at 154 (76-78).
