UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Senior Justin Harper was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after averaging 26.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks as Richmond opened Atlantic 10 play with two victories.
The Richmond, Va. native scored 27 points, making 9-of-12 field goals in the Spiders 71-59 victory over Charlotte last Wednesday and had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds in Richmond's 87-68 win at La Salle on Saturday.
The 6-foot-10 forward shot 65.5 percent from the floor (19-29) including 53.8 percent (7-13) from long range in helping the Spiders move to 13-4, their best start since the 1987-88 season.
Harper is shooting 56.5 percent from the field and 51.3 percent from three-point territory, while leading the Spiders in scoring at 16.8 points per game.
This was Harper's second Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award in his career. He has 1,082 career points, which ranks 32nd on Richmond's all-time career list, five points behind Picot Frazier for 31st and 25 points to tie Rodney Rice for 30th.
Richmond hosts Rhode Island on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a game televised nationally on CBS College Sports.
