PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
Temple went on a 10-0 run to start the game and never looked back as Richmond fell 84-56, Saturday afternoon at McGonigle Hall.
Temple started the game making seven of its first eight shots and made 60 percent of its first-half field goals (17-for-28).
After the Spiders got to within 14-8 at the 16:09 mark, Temple used a 9-2 run over the next five minutes to push its lead to 23-10. The Spiders would get to within 31-23 after a Becca Wann layup but a 15-4 Owl run to close the half widened the gap to 46-27 at the break.
Temple, who typically shoots the three at a 34 percent clip, drained a team-record 14 long balls. The Owls also hit 12-of-13 tries from the foul line.
Goring had a strong game in the post and led Richmond with 12 points. Genevieve Okoro, who had her high school basketball team in attendance for support, had 10 points, four boards and a team-high four steals. Gutsy, two-sport athlete Becca Wann added seven points and six rebounds while Amber Nichols contributed a career-best eight tallies.
The Spiders continue road play with Fordham Wednesday at noon in the Bronx.
