UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - Richmond football head coach Latrell Scott announced Thursday that Zohn Burden has been added to the staff as an assistant coach. Burden is a 2006 graduate of VMI and the Big South's all-time receiving leader. He will coach the wide receivers at Richmond.
"Zohn is a great addition to our coaching staff," said Scott. "He brings a wealth of experience to the receivers position. He was a competitor as a player and has developed into a top-notch young coach."
Burden, who had Scott as his position coach for three years at VMI, joins the Richmond staff after four years as an assistant at Old Dominion. While helping establish the Monarchs program at the FCS level, Burden served as the defensive backs coach and was the team's academic liaison. A native of Virginia Beach and graduate of Salem High, Burden was key in ODU's recruiting efforts in the Tidewater area.
Prior to his position at ODU, Burden spent two years as the wide receivers coach, passing coordinator and defensive backs coach at Fork Union Military Academy.
"This is a great opportunity for me professionally and I'm looking forward to working with Coach Scott, his staff and Richmond's dynamic group of receivers," said Burden. "The Spiders are an FCS power and I thank Coach Scott for the chance to be a part of it."
Burden earned his degree in psychology in 2006 from VMI where he played wide receiver for the Keydets. He finished his career as the Big South's all-time leader in receptions (162) and receiving yards (2,111). The three-time all-conference honoree also holds the school record with a reception in 34 consecutive games.
Burden has a daughter Zaria, who was born in March of 2010.
With Burden's hire, current wide receivers coach Tripp Billingsley has been moved to running back coach. Billingsley replaces Stacy Tutt, who left to pursue interests outside of coaching.
Scott also announced Thursday the hiring of Erin O'Riley as the director of football operations. O'Riley spent the last two seasons as Bowling Green's assistant director of football operations under head coach Dave Clawson. She was a lacrosse player at Florida State and graduated in 2006 with a degree in family, child, and consumer sciences. O'Riley received a sports management degree from BGSU in 2009.
