THE TEAM
Richmond is off to the best start in 23 years and the third-best start in 56 seasons at 13-4. The only Richmond teams to start 13-4 or better since the 1954-55 team's 13-4 start were the 1985-86 (16-1) and the 1987-88 (14-3) teams. This is the sixth-best 17-game start in school history.
The Spiders have now won the Atlantic 10 road opener in all six years under Chris Mooney and have won 10 of the last 12 Atlantic 10 road games. Richmond has won in its last three visits to Tom Gola Arena and have won four-straight road games this season.
Eleven of Richmond's 13 victories have come by double-figures and the Spiders have led by 20 points in six games this season.
Richmond shot 53.4 percent from the field, the eighth time in 17 games that the Spiders have shot over 50 percent from the floor.
Richmond had two players (Kevin Anderson and Justin Harper) score 20 points for the second time in the last four games.
THE PLAYERS
Senior Kevin Anderson scored 27 points, one shy of his season high 28 points against Purdue. It was Anderson's 100th-career double-figure scoring game, including his 16th in 17 games this season. Anderson has 34 20-point games, including six this season. He has reached double-figures in 93 of the last 99 games and now has 1,836 career points, which is seven points shy of Ed Harrison (1952-56) for third on Richmond's all-time career list.
Senior Justin Harper scored 25 points for his 49th-career double-figure scoring game, including his 15th this season. Harper has nine 20-point games, including five this season and has scored 25 points or more while registering a double-double in two of the last four games. Harper's 10 rebounds Saturday gave him his third double-double of his career. Harper has 1,082 career points, having passed Scott Stapleton (1,059), Jeff Pehl (1,060) and Bill Flye (1,062) to move into 32nd on Richmond's all-time scoring list. Harper moved into a tie with Curtis Blair for 10th on Richmond's all-time career list for three-pointers with 141.
Senior Dan Geriot scored 13 points for his 56th-career double-figure scoring game, including his seventh this season. Geriot has 1,180 career points, which ranks 24th on Richmond's all-time career list, eight points behind Tom Tenwick for 23rd.
Senior Kevin Smith tied a season high with five assists.
Junior Darrius Garrett blocked one shot to give him 100 blocked shots for his career. That ranks seventh on Richmond's all-time career list.
