10/11/2011 | Women's Golf
MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- Junior Tracy Martin tied the school record with her three-under 69 in Monday's opening round and Richmond leads after two rounds of the Spider Invitational.
Martin is the Day 1 leader after rounds of 69 and 72 at Independence Golf Club Monday, and is three strokes clear of the field heading into Tuesday's final round. As a team, the Spiders posted rounds of 305 and 300 Monday and lead Brown University by two strokes.
Martin also established a new school record with a two-round total of 141 (-3), shattering the previous school record of 145 (+1) set by Natasha Moreira during the 2005-06 season. Martin's 69 matched the school record of three-under 69 by Jillian Fraccola two seasons ago.
A Tyngsboro, Mass. native, Martin is the only player under par in the field and her 69 was one of just two under-par rounds carded on Monday. Stephanie Hsieh of Brown shot a 70 in the first round and sits second overall (70-74=144).
Lauren Conder posted rounds of 76 and 72 and is tied for fourth with her 148. Caroline Lovette is tied for ninth after rounds of 76 and 77. Viviana Perez (87-79) and Krystin Schwarze (84-82) are each tied for 41st at 166. Kristin Wright played as an individual and is tied for 37th (85-80=165).
Tuesday's final round is underway at 8:30 a.m.
Richmond (605), Brown (607), Hofstra (609), St. John's (614) and Boston College (616) compile the top-five in the nine-team field.
