MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- Junior Tracy Martin reached a playoff for the individual title, leading Richmond to a tie for second at the Spider Invitational Tuesday.
Martin carded a final-round 74 and was matched in a sudden death playoff with Brown's Stephanie Hsieh, who shot a two-under 70 Tuesday at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian.
Hsieh rolled in a birdie to claim individual medalist honors, after Martin's birdie attempt rolled inches short. Martin (69-72-74) and Hsieh (70-74-71) were the only two players under par for the 54-hole tournament, each posting a 215.
Martin, who tied Richmond's one-round score of 69 and set a new two-round record of 141 on Monday, became the first player in school history to fire red numbers for a three-round tournament and broke the school's 54-hole record of 218 (+2) by Natasha Moreira, during the 2005-06 season. The runner-up finish is a career-best for Martin.
St. John's (911) stormed back on Tuesday, shooting 297 as a team and claiming a six-stroke victory over Brown and Richmond (917). Boston College (919) was fourth and Hofstra (920) was fifth in the nine-team field.
Sophomore Lauren Conder posted a 76 Tuesday and claimed a career-best fourth-place finish with her 54-hole score of 224 (76-72-76). Junior Caroline Lovette was tied for 12th with her 231 (76-77-78).
Also for Richmond, sophomore Krystin Schwarze was 41st (84-82-84=250) and sophomore Viviana Perez was 43rd (87-79-86=252). Freshman Kristin Wright, who played as an individual, finished 42nd (85-80-86=251).
The Spiders are back in action Oct. 23-24 at the Palmetto Invitational at Oak Point GC in Kiawah Island, S.C.
