Led by impressive rounds from junior Nick Austin and senior Brad Miller, the Spiders posted a 300 in Round 1, followed that with a 295 in Round 2 and are just nine strokes back of the top five with 18 holes to play.
Florida paced the field, firing a nine-under 567 as a team, followed by UAB (577), Maryland (580), South Florida (581) and the host College of Charleston (584) in the top five of the competitive 12-team field.
"Nick and Brad played well and both left a number of shots out there," said head coach Adam Decker. "This is a very tough golf course and we have a good opportunity tomorrow to move up the leaderboard."
Austin carded a one-under 71 in Monday's first round to go with a 73 in the second round and the junior from nearby James River High is T-9th with his 36-hole total of 144.
Miller put a 73 on the board Monday morning and followed with a 75 in afternoon and his 148 is T-22nd.
Freshman Danny Pizetoski bounced back from an 80 Monday morning with a one-over 73 in the second round and is T-45th (153).
