KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Nick Austin collected his sixth career Top 10 and led the men's golf team to a ninth-place finish Tuesday at The Invitational at the Ocean Course.
Austin birdied five of the final eight holes, charging home with a four-under 32 on the back and finishing Tuesday's final round at even-par 72 on the famed Ocean Course.
With his 54-hole score of even-par 216 (71-73-72), Austin clinched a T-7th finish for his second Top 10 finish in the three events he's played this season.
As a team, the Spiders shot a 301 Tuesday after rounds of 300 and 295 on Monday and their 896 team score was good for a T-9th in the 12-team field. Florida was the only team in red numbers (6-under) and cruised to an 11-stroke victory over UAB.
Senior Brad Miller posted a 225 (73-75-77) for the tournament and finished T-33rd, and was followed by freshman Danny Pizetoski in 46th (80-73-77=230), junior Daniel Walker in T-47th (76-79-76=231), sophomore Jack Wilkes in T-54th (81-74-78=233) and junior Jack Lessing a stroke back in 58th (80-78-76=234).
UAB's Sam Love fired a 70 Tuesday and claimed a two-stroke win over Florida's Tyler McCumber.
Richmond returns to action this weekend at the ODU/OBX Invitational. The three-day event begins Sunday at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Outer Banks, N.C.
