Spiders Host Rhode Island On Senior Night

Richmond will honor seven seniors Friday as it hosts Rhode Island at 7 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
Join the Spiders: Richmond hosts Rhode Island Friday at 7 p.m. at Robins Stadium for 'Soccer Night.' Club teams in the area are encouraged to attend the game, wear team uniforms and help cheer on the Spiders. Richmond hosts UMass in its final regular season game of the season Sunday on 'Can UMass' day. Fans are encouraged to bring canned items to be donated to the UR Fall Festival. First kick is slated for 1 p.m.
Surging Spiders: Richmond won a season-best five games in a row and have come away victorious five of six and 10 of the last 12 contests. Richmond has recorded the most since 2003 and is making a return trip the A-10 Tournament for the first time since 2007. Richmond is 11-4-3 overall, 5-1-1 in league action. The Spiders are currently tied for second with UMass.
No Place Like Home: The Spiders are 5-0-2 this season at Robins Stadium. The Spiders took down two ranked foes in then No. 21 William & Mary in Sept. and No. 21 Dayton earlier this month.
Richmond Ranks: Richmond is No. 4 in the latest NSCAA Regional rankings with A-10 leading La Salle taking the top spot. Richmond defeated the Tribe and Flyers which come in at No. 2 and 3 respectively. Becca Wann leads the conference and is 15th in the country in total goals (14). Wann ranks second for goals in a single season with 14, and is only seven shots shy of all-time shot leader in a single season. Wann's six game-winning tallies rank her fifth nationally and she ranks 17th in the nation in total points (34). Liza Koch leads the team and is second in the conference with eight assists. Koch's eight dishes rank 30th in the country.
Spiders vs. Rams: The Rams come into Friday's contest with a 6-9-2 overall mark and 1-5-1 record in conference play. Rhode Island snapped No. 25 La Salle's 14-game win streak with a 1-1 double overtime tie Wednesday. Stephanie Santos leads Ram scoring with six goals. Rhody took the last meeting between the two teams, 2-1, in 2009.
What's Next: After wrapping up the regular season this weekend at Robins Stadium, Richmond travels to Dayton for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Tournament. Play commences Thursday. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday.
