
Miller Paces Spiders On Day 1 At NC State

Brad Miller fired a 71 in Monday's second round and the men's golf team is tied for seventh heading into Tuesday's final round at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
Miller's even-par 71 paced the Spiders in Monday's second round after sophomore Jack Wilkes posted a one-under 70 in the opening round on the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
"It was tough conditions today - chilly and windy," said head coach Adam Decker. "We got off to a bit of a rocky start, but settled down and put up two reasonable rounds."
Richmond shot 294 as a team in the first round, followed that with a 293 in the nightcap and the Spiders (587) are tied for seventh with Western Carolina in the 16-team field. Memphis (571), Louisiana-Lafayette (574), Campbell (575), UNC Greensboro (576) and East Carolina (577) comprise the top five.
Miller is tied for 20th with his three-over 145 (74-71) and junior Nick Austin is tied for 26th and two strokes back of Miller after rounds of 75 and 72. Wilkes is T35th at 148 (70-78), followed by freshman Colin McDade in T39th at 149 (76-73) and junior Daniel Walker is T56th with his two-round total of 152 (75-77).
"We are in a position to make a move tomorrow and see what happens. We will need to have all five guys engaged and making smart decisions," said Decker.
Tuesday's final round is underway at 7:30 a.m. and live scoring is available.
