The Robins Center, hub of University of Richmond Athletics since the facility opened in 1972, is scheduled for comprehensive renovations as part of the University's recently-approved Master Plan.
The University Of Richmond Board Of Trustees approved the new University Master Plan. Among the projected campus projects contained in the Master Plan are enhancements to the Robins Center.
The plan calls for $15 million to be allocated for Phase 1 of the Robins Center enhancements. Plans are currently being developed to modernize the arena, concourse, locker rooms, student-athlete support facilities, and offices. These enhancements will be phased in during the next five years.
"I am glad significant renovations to the Robins Center are included in the University's Campus Master Plan," said Jim Miller, Director of Athletics. "This clearly demonstrates the University's commitment to provide quality space for its athletic program. In addition to enhancing the practice, competitive, and support areas for our student-athletes, this project will transform the Robins Center into a state-of-the-art facility for our entire University community."
In addition to the home of Spider men's and women's basketball, the Robins Center annually hosts commencement exercises, and has been the stage for a Presidential speech and debate, and also provides a forum for numerous other educational and cultural events.
