Senior wide receiver Tre Gray capped a record-setting career with First Team All-CAA Football honors for the second consecutive year in voting by the league's head coaches. Junior linebacker Darius McMillan earned Second Team, while senior defensive back Colin Pehanick was tabbed Third Team. The All-CAA teams were announced Monday by the conference office.
Gray led CAA Football in receptions (95) and yards (1187), both of which were Richmond team records. The Cuero, Texas native also set Spider career marks for receptions (243) and yards (3101). He had seven career 100-yard receiving games, six of which came in 2011.
His 16 catches and 194 yards receiving versus New Hampshire were both career highs and single-game bests in the league this season. Gray was fourth nationally in FCS in receptions per game (8.64) and sixth in receiving yards per game (107.9).
"Tre had a phenomenal year and certainly deserves all the honors he receives," said head coach Wayne Lineburg. "In my mind, he had as good a year as any offensive player I have ever coached."
McMillan recorded double-digit tackles in 10 of 11 games, highlighted by a career-high 20 stops in the season finale against William & Mary, the second-most tackles in a CAA game this season. McMillan, a Hampton product, was second in the league in tackles (133) and tackles per game (12.1). He led the team in stops each of the last five games.
"Darius had an outstanding year. He made play after play for us on defense all season," said Lineburg. "He is a very tough, hard nosed player who was the heart of our defense this year".
Pehanick enjoyed a break-out season with 92 tackles, 6.5 for loss, two quarterback sacks, two interceptions and a league-best four forced fumbles. His 8.4 tackles per game was 12th-best in the league, and third among defensive backs. The Charlottesville native recorded a career-high 13 tackles at JMU.
"Colin emerged for us this season and played extremely well," said Lineburg. "He was all over the field for us this year and made a number of outstanding plays. He is very deserving of this award."
The honor was Gray's third in four seasons, including a Third Team selection as a sophomore in 2009. McMillan and Pehanick earned their first All Conference selections.
