
Spiders Play Rutgers At 7PM ET On CBS Sports Network

CANCUN, Mexico - Richmond plays Rutgers on Wednesday in the Cancun Challenge at 7:00 p.m. ET in a game televised back to the State on the CBS Sports Network.

- The Spiders will not get to go home with a third-straight Thanksgiving Week Tournament title, despite almost digging itself out of an 18-point halftime deficit Tuesday against Illinois. The Spiders do have another shot at a team from a BCS conference on Wednesday, playing Rutgers in the Cancun Challenge.
- Richmond won the 2009 South Padre Island Invitational and the 2010 Chicago Invitational Challenge. Richmond defeated Mississippi State and Missouri to win the South Padre Island Invitational on their way to an NCAA Tournament in the 2009-10 season and the Spiders took down No. 8 ranked Purdue in the finals of the Chicago Invitational on the way to last year's Sweet 16 and a second-straight Top-25 finish.
- The Spiders are 11-1 in regular-season tournament play over the last three seasons, having gone 4-0 on the way to winning the South Padre Island Invtitaional in 2009, 4-0 on the way to winning the Chicago Invitational Challenge last November and 2-1 in this year's Cancun Challenge. Richmond is 17-4 in tournament paly over the last three season, including the Atlantic 10 Tournament and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
- The Spiders were 7-2 in neutral court games last year and are 11-5 in neutral court games over the last three years, including 5-1 in Atlantic 10 Tournament play and two NCAA Tournament wins last March.
- With more athleticsm and strength in the lineup, Richmond expected to get to the foul line a lot more this year and the Spiders are doing just that, having taken 135 free throws through four games and connecting on 102 of them for a 75.6 percentage.
- Junior Darien Brothers has surpassed his career-high in points in each of the last two games, including a 22 point effort last night against Illinois. Brothers made a career-high six three-pointers in nine attempts against the Illini.
- Senior Darrius Garrett blocked seven shots on Tuesday against Illinois which moved him into sole possession of third on RIchmond's career list for blocks. Garrett, who blocked an A-10 record 14 shots (the 2nd highest total in NCAA history) against UMass in 2009-10, needs 42 blocks to set the school record.
- Having won the first two Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week awards, Kendall Anthony is averaging at team-high 16.0 points per game through his first five games.
- Richmond is 9-5 in its last 14 games against BCS Conference teams. Chris Mooney is 4-3 vs. Big East teams at Richmond and 5-3 vs. the Big East in his eight years as a coach, including an Air Force victory over Rutgers in 2004-05.
