Beach Wins NGA Pro Golf Tour Event
11/29/2011 | Men's Basketball
Playing as an amatuer, the 2011 Richmond graduate started the final round tied for the lead with Hawaiian Tadd Fujikawa at 7-under par, but Yancey vaulted into contention by shooting a Thursday-low 67 to reach the clubhouse at 5-under par, setting up extra holes. The playoff lasted two holes before Beach ended the tournament with a par on the second playoff hole.
"As the conditions worsened, I knew I just needed to stay patient and take it one shot at a time," said Beach of Glen Allen, Va. "I tried not to pay attention to where I stood late in the day. I wasn't uncomfortable in the final paring and I really liked the course. As the week went on, all aspects of my game started working, and I putted extremely well. It just all worked out for me this week."
Beach was a four-year starter and two-time All-Atlantic 10 selection at Richmond, graduating last May.
