Spiders Stopped By Dayton In A-10 Semifinals

DAYTON, OHIO--Richmond was stopped by Dayton, 2-0, Friday night at Baujan Field in the 2011 A-10 Tournament in Dayton, Ohio.
"I thought we lost to a very good Dayton team," said head coach Peter Albright. "They scored a great goal and playing from behind against Dayton is extremely difficult. Our effort and commitment to the game was excellent. We didn't execute as well as we could've. I was very proud of the way we fought to the final whistle. I'm very proud of our team and our season."
After stingy defense by both teams to start the contest, Dayton broke free and scored in the 33rd minute when Juliana Libertin lasered a shot in the upper right part of the goal to give Dayton the 1-0 lead.
Dayton added the insurance when Alexis Garcia powered one through after a deflection in the upper 90 of the box in the game's 50th minute.
Richmond had 12 shots, led by Natalie LeClair's four. A-10 Player of the Year Becca Wann had three shots, but was pestered by Dayton defenders all game.
Senior goalkeeper Melissa Pacheco had eight saves. Pacheco finished her stellar career with 224 saves, good for second all-time. Pacheco finished 30th in the country in goals against average and 12th in save percentage. Teammate Liza Koch finished 30th in the country in assists.
Richmond finished its remarkable run with a 13-5-3 mark. It was the Spiders' most wins since the 2002 season. Richmond returned to the A-10 Tournament for the first time since 2007 and received a program-first bye.
It was the first loss suffered by Richmond since Sept. 30 and first time Richmond surrendered goals since Oct. 9.
Wann was the program's first-ever recipient of the Player of the Year award. Wann finished second in the conference and 13th in the country in goals (15), 17th in points (36) and fourth in game-winning tallies (7). Wann finished second in a single season in points (36) and goals (15). Wann set a single-season record for game-winning scores (7).
Richmond won a season-best five games in a row this season, tying a program-high streak. Richmond won 11 of the last 14 games and six of the last eight. Richmond's 7-1-1 conference mark was a program-best.
