UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond hosts in-state rival Old Dominion on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
The Spiders are (6-5), coming off a three-game losing streak to teams that will contend for their league titles and bids to the NCAA Tournament. Old Dominion comes into the Robins Center with a 5-5 record.
THE LATEST
- In a match-up of the two Virginia teams that have made back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, Richmond and Old Dominion come into Tuesday night's game looking to snap losing streaks. Since this in-state rivalry was renewed in 2005, the home team has won all six meetings.
- Richmond has lost three-straight games for the first time in the regular season since a four-game losing streak in January and February of 2009.
- The Spiders have played just one home game in the last month. Richmond is 3-1 at home this season and are 16-2 vs. non-conference opponents in the Robins Center over the last three seasons. Richmond is 24-4 in the last 28 non-conference home games dating back to the 2007-08 season and 31-5 in its last 36 home games.
- Senior Darrius Garrett is second on Richmond's all-time blocks list with 162. He needs 22 blocks to pass Tim Faulconer (183) for the school record. Garrett ranks 7th in the nation in blocks per game (3.5 bpg) and the Spiders rank 32nd in the nation (5.5 bpg).
• Freshman Kendall Anthony won 3 of the first 4 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week awards and is leading the team in scoring at 15.0 points per game. Anthony is shooting 40.0 percent from three (22-of-55).
- With more athleticism and strength in the lineup, Richmond expected to get to the foul line a lot more this year and the Spiders are doing just that, having taken 244 free throws through 11 games, for an average of 22.2 free throws per game. Last year the Spiders averaged 17.2 free throw attempts per game. Richmond is connecting on 75.8 percent of its free throws this season, which ranks 16th in the nation. It is impossible to defend a free throw, but the Spiders rank 344th out of 350 teams in free throw percentage defense with opponents shooting 80.5 percent from the line.
- The Spiders graduated the winningest class in school history and a total of over 5,000 career points with the departure of four starters. But this year's senior class needs just 10 more wins to equal last year's seniors as the winningest class in school history.
