
Spiders Keep It Close But Outlasted By Bruins

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After knotting the score at 34-34 at intermission, Richmond could not close a second-half deficit as UCLA pulled away down the stretch for a 71-63 victory on Friday at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.
Junior Darien Brothers shot 8-for-16 from the field and buried 5-of-10 treys to finish with a game-high 25 points. Sophomore Derrick Williams added 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting and a 5-of-6 clip at the line, while freshman Kendall Anthony came off the bench to total 10 tallies tonight.
Senior Darrius Garrett paced all players with nine rebounds and finished with a game-best five blocks to lead the Spiders defensively.
Richmond (7-6) went 18-for-52 (34.6%) from the floor and 10-for-26 (38.5%) from long range. The Spiders turned in another solid showing at the stripe, going 17-of-21 (81%) at the line on Friday.
UCLA (7-5) finished 27-of-61 (44.3%) from the field but was held to just 2-of-7 (28.6%) shooting from beyond the arc. The Bruins held a 36-21 advantage on the glass to help offset their 13 turnovers in earning the win.
Senior Lazeric Jones scored 16 points to lead five Bruins in double figures. Sophomore Travis Wear poured in 14 points off the bench while twin brother David Wear came up just shy of a double-double with 12 points and a team-high eight boards.
The Spiders will break for the holiday before returning to the friendly confines of the Robins Center to face Liberty on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m.
