No. 4 Spiders To Face Fifth-Seeded Charlotte Saturday At 2:30 P.M. In Quarters

The fourth-seeded Spiders will square off against No. 5 Charlotte Saturday in the quarterfinal round at 2:30 p.m. at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass.

Richmond received its second bye in three years and will play as the No. 4 seed against #5 Charlotte/No. 12 UMass Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The last time Richmond was a No. 4 seed it went to the 2009 A-10 Finals where it eventually fell to Charlotte.
Richmond's second all-time leading scorer Brittani Shells was named as an All Conference first team and All Defensive team selection for the third straight year and garnered All-Academic honors for the first time in her career.
Shells is the Spiders' all-time steals leader (290) and is second in career average (16.2) and field goals made (796). Shells is fourth all-time in three pointers (174) and eighth in assists (323). Shells has recorded double-figures in all but two games this season and has 106 double-figure games for her career.
Brittani Shells became just the second-ever Spider in program history to record 2,000 points as the Richmond beat Saint Louis, 68-57, on Senior Day Saturday at the Robins Center.
Shells also grabbed two steals passing Jackie Israel for the program's all-time steals leader. Shells also had eight rebounds and three assists.
Richmond outrebounded the Billikens, 45-37 and had its best game all season from the charity stripe, sinking 21-of-23 tries.
A-10 Rookie of the Week Genevieve Okoro continued her impressive play with another double-double of 16 points (tied a career-high) and 10 boards. Okoro also went a career-high 12-of-13 from the charity stripe. Abby Oliver led Richmond with 18 tallies with a stellar shooting day of 5-for-8 from the field, including 2-of-2 from long range, 6-of-6 from the line. Oliver is only 64 tallies shy of becoming the 18th Spider in program history to record 1,000 points. Oliver has sunk a team-leading 48 threes and is a team-leading 40 percent from long range.
The Series:
Richmond is 1-7 all-time versus the 49ers and dropped a 73-62 decision to Charlotte in Jan. at the Robins Center.
The last time these two teams met in the tournament was the 2009 A-10 title game where the 49ers edged the Spiders, 59-54. Richmond was also a four seed in that tournament.
Richmond is 3-5 all-time in the quarterfinal round, 1-2 in the semifinals and 0-1 in the tournament championship game.
The A-10 tournament is being played at a neutral site for the second consecutive year.
