Beach In Lead, Spiders One Shot Back At NC State Open

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior Sam Beach is the leader in the clubhouse and the Richmond men's golf team is in second place after the first round of NC State's Wolfpack Spring Open played Saturday.
Beach shot a 2-under 69 on the par-71, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course to hold a one shot lead entering Sunday's second and final round of play.
The Spiders carded a 291 to sit one shot behind first-place Lamar (290), 11 shots ahead of Francis Marion and 12 shots in front of NC State.
Richmond senior Michael Shrader is tied for fifth at 2-over 73 and sophomore Daniel Walker is tied for 10th at 3-over 74.
Junior Brad Miller is tied for 13th at 4-over 75 and sophomore Nick Austin is tied for 59th.
Richmond is looking to finish in the top-5 for the eighth time in nine tournaments this season and in the top-3 for the sixth time in the last seven events. This is the Spiders' last tuneup before the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship held in two weeks in Florida.
