
Wesselink Named A-10 Coach of the Year, Three Spiders Grab Honors

Head coach Mark Wesselink was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year after guiding the Spiders to their third-straight and conference-record eighth A-10 championship title. Helen Cunningham and Joanna Matuszczyk garnered first team accolades, with senior Kelly Tidwell earning second team and All Academic honors.
Wesselink led the program to its third straight A-10 Women's Tennis Championship crown and its eighth title in nine seasons with convincing wins over Charlotte (4-0), George Washington (4-0) and Saint Louis (4-1).
It was Wesselink's sixth A-10 Coach of the Year honor. Wesselink has led Richmond to 17 winning seasons and 10 NCAA Championship appearances in his 20 years at the helm.
Cunningham and Matuszczyk both earned All Conference first team honors after leading the Spiders at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Matuszczyk went 12-5 in singles action and 11-8 in doubles play. Matuszczyk was named A-10 Player of the Week Mar. 7 and earned a Rookie of the Week nod her freshman year. Cunningham was an All Conference second team selection her freshman year.
Tidwell grabbed second team and All Academic honors for the Spiders, as she posted an impressive 3.92 grade point average in business administration. Tidwell has garnered All Conference recognition in every year of her career.
The 2011 A-10 champion Spiders await their opponent in next month's NCAA Championship.
