Women's Tennis Falls To Duke In NCAA First Round

Richmond fell to third-ranked Duke, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in the NCAA First Round.
This team had a special chemistry," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "They worked hard and had fun doing it. I feel fortunate to be along for the ride with them as they battled through many 4-3 wins and a 3rd straight A10 championship. The seniors were a big part of our success and helped set the tone for how to work together and win."
Duke tennis (#3) is almost like duke basketball, a perennial top 10. They were just too tough. I'm proud of our team for giving it their best and a great season.
Richmond ended its season having won its third-straight and conference-record eighth A-10 crown. A-10 Coach of the Year Mark Wesselink guided Richmond to its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance, seventh in the last eight years, and its 17th winning season. It was the sixth time Wesselink garnered the award.
Helen Cunningham, Joanna Matuszczyk were tabbed to the All Conference first team, while Kelly Tidwell earned second team and All Academic honors.
