PALO ALTO, Calif. - Richmond senior Matt Llano put down the NCAA's 10th-fastest 10,000m time of the season Sunday night at the Stanford Invitational with his 28:43.30. It also ranks as the fastest time in the Atlantic is a USATF National Championship "B" standard.
Llano's time at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational also ranks as the fifth-fastest mark within the NCAA East Region.
"I felt great the first 5k," said Llano. "It really felt easy and I was right where I wanted to be. I had a few laps that I just didn't feel good, but then I felt better over the last mile."
Llano was clocked at 4:31.2 over the the last 1,600m of the race.
"Matt ran a good race which ranks as a top 10 mark in the NCAA for this year", said men's head coach Steve Taylor. "He had about 6-7 laps around the four-mile point that were a little slower than he wanted, but he rebounded well and closed brilliantly running 4:31 over his final mile of the race. Matt is a tough competitor and I 'm happy with his effort here tonight."
