UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - Junior Lauren Hines, the reigning Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer, has kept the momentum rolling from her stellar sophomore season by earning a spot in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha next summer.
Hines charged to a first-place finish in the 100 back last weekend at the Virginia Long Course Senior Championships in Cary, N.C. Her time of 1:03.36 not only edged Madison Hahn (1:03.37) at the wall, but more importantly was sixth-tenths of a second under the Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 1:03.99.
"Lauren has had a great 2011 with this 100 back cut as well as her first trip to NCAA," said head coach Matt Barany. "She didn't sneak under this Trials cut, but raced the 100 back three times under the standard in one day."
The native of Roanoke, Va. was a 2010-11 Mid-Major All-America and competed in the NCAA Championship this past season.
Former Spiders Katie Sieben and Lauren Beaudreau competed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials.
