Spiders Battle Longwood To Scoreless Draw

Richmond battled Longwood to a scoreless tie Friday night at Robins Stadium in each teams' season opener. The match marked the return to campus for the women's soccer program following a two-year hiatus during renovation and expansion of Robins Center.
The Spiders outshot Longwood, 21-9, led by Becca Wann and Drika Bianchin's four tries each. Ten Spiders notched shots for Richmond.
Senior goalkeeper Andrea Young had a stellar game between the pipes, recording three saves, two of which were breakaway attempts by Longwood in the second half.
Richmond controlled the tempo and possession for much of the game, but could not seem to capitalize with a tally.
The Spiders travel to No. 10 Virginia Sunday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
