Spiders Conclude Non-Conference Slate With American
09/23/2011 | Women's Soccer
The Spiders, winners of four in a row, head to American Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
Last Time Out: The Spiders edged North Florida, 2-1, to win the UNC-Wilmington Invite last weekend in Wilmington, N.C. Richmond overpowered Western Carolina, 4-1, last Friday to put itself in position for the title Sunday. Kristin Lescalleet, Ashley Williams, Natalie LeClair and Erin Layne were all named to the All-Tournament team with Becca Wann garnering Most Outstanding Performer. Wann scored three goals over the weekend after a two-goal performance in the win over the Catamounts and had one tally against North Florida.
Richmond Lately: Richmond has won a season-best four games in a row, jumpstarted by a thrilling 2-0 victory over No. 21 William & Mary. In this span, leading scorer Becca Wann has been named A-10 Player of the Week twice and scored five of Richmond's eight goals. Wann has a team leading eight goals on the year and four assists for 20 points, which ranks her 17th nationally. Saturday's game marks the final non-conference game of the season for Richmond. The Spiders play seven road games before returning to Robins Stadium Oct. 14.
American Lately: The Eagles come into the contest 3-6-1 after having their two-game win streak snapped by Loyola (Md.), 1-0, Wednesday. Richmond is 7-4-0 all-time against American, but the two teams have split the last four meetings. The Spiders won last year's contest, 1-0, in Richmond. The Eagles are paced by Samantha Trotta and Jasmine Mohandesi's two goals.
Up Next: The Spiders open A-10 play next Friday at Duquesne. First kick is slated for 7:00 p.m.
