Postgame Quotes: No. 20/23 Richmond 23, Delaware 17
11/11/2012 | Football
Richmond Head Coach
Danny Rocco
Opening Statement:
"I am really happy about the result and the outcome. We got
off to a good start. That really was encouraging. We hadn't necessarily been
doing that [this season] but we did it tonight. All three phases showed some
real signs of being dominant throughout the course of the game. The most
frustrating thing was we never were really able to put them away. Delaware kept
fighting and working their way back into the game."
Richmond Head Coach
Danny Rocco
On the defense:
"It's just shy of phenomenal when you take a look at our
defense, the number of takeaways that we have, how aggressive we are at and
around the ball. It's always an 11-man effort with consistent pressure."
Richmond Head Coach
Danny Rocco
On winning on senior
day:
"I am just real proud of these seniors. These guys have been
through a lot. What they are going to remember the most in their college
experience is how they finish. We are heading down that stretch where we have
an opportunity to really have fabulous, sensational season."
Senior Linebacker
Darius McMillan
On the defense's
performance:
"It is a team effort. There have been times when the offense
has bailed us out. We go into every practice competing against the offense. We
know what they can do. Sometimes it takes a whole team effort. We were blessed
enough to be able step up when we need to today. "
Senior Defensive Back
Darryl Hamilton
On the team's transformation:
"A lot of games last year we were in close games, we knew we
had that talent. That just goes to say how much of a great coach Coach Rocco
is. He really came in and helped us to change the culture a lot. We practice
and preach finishing. A lot of times last year we didn't finish."
Sophomore Wide
Receiver Rashad Ponder
On winning on senior
day:
"We just wanted
to send the seniors out on a good note. Us young players from freshman on up,
we just wanted to play hard and give our all for them. "
Delaware Head Coach K.C. Keeler
Opening Statement:
"It's been a rough three weeks. As I told the kids, we are
Delaware and there are no moral victories.
I would be foolish not to mention that no would question the character
of this team. There were so many different ways we could have quit today and we
didn't. We got off to a slow start, had some turnovers early, got down quick
but we kept battling back. It is a good Richmond team. Unfortunately, I think
we have gotten the A games of the last three teams."
Delaware Head Coach K.C. Keeler
On Richmond pass defense:
"I thought Richmond did a good job bring pressure, sitting
on some shorter routes and we had to get the ball quick out of our hands.
That's the way two of the picks game."
