Postgame Quotes: No. 22 Richmond 39, Rhode Island 0

Opening Statement:
"I'm real happy
about the result. We took control of the
game in the second half. We played real
big defense. I challenged the defense this week and I challenged them last
night and they accepted that challenge quite evidently in their performance
today. Pretty much from beginning to
end, [it was] a pretty dominant performance by our defense. Offensively, in the
first half, I was a little disappointed.
We didn't have the execution that we have been accustomed to having as
of late. We still were able to go into
the locker room with a thirteen-nothing lead but we are capable of doing
more. In the second half I thought we
really took control of the football game.
I thought that Rhode Island played hard.
They are extremely banged up and thin right now with their roster. Their quarterback did not play and they had a
lot of things stacked against them here tonight. I think it's important for our football team
to remain humble and hungry as we head into this stretch with a big home game
next weekend against Delaware."

On interceptions:
"In order to intercept the football and to
be ball disruptive, you have to be ball aware. We've talked a lot about being
ball aware and our guys are very aware of where the ball is, how the ball
carriers are carrying the ball, and where the ball is being thrown in the
passing game. I think tonight, the
biggest thing was really the pressure that we applied to their quarterback. He was under duress an awful lot and thrown
off his back foot. Some of those balls
were batted and deflected and we were opportunistic in our ability to intercept
the football."
Richmond sophomore linebacker
Aaron Roane
On interceptions:
"We pride
ourselves on taking away the ball. In
practice we make sure we are throwing it up in the air and catching the ball in
the air, getting interceptions and getting turnovers. We just pride our defense on making stops."
Richmond redshirt
sophomore quarterback Michael Strauss
On teammate Justin
Westfall's first career touchdown:
"I didn't know during the play [it was his first touchdown},
but after I realized that he hadn't ever had one before and that was nice that
I could do that for him. He made a great
play on the ball too, and I just tried to make a play and it worked out."
Richmond sophomore defensive
end Justin Williamson
On his 24 yard
interception return for a touchdown:
"I had a defensive lineman dream catching the interception
and taking it to the house."
