Spiders Host GW On ESPNU Saturday At 5PM

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond hosts George Washington on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a game televised nationally on ESPNU.
THE LATEST
- The Spiders defeated La Salle on Wednesday behind a monster 22-point, 11 rebound performance for sophomore Derrick Williams. Williams has been dominate in two of the Spiders' biggest wins this season, having also scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win over Atlantic 10-leading Temple on Jan. 14. In that game Williams play in the first half helped the Spiders' to a 19-point halftime lead.
- Richmond played without point guard Cedrick Lindsay in the loss at George Washington earlier this season. The Colonials shot 58 percent from the field as they snapped a four-game losing streak to the Spiders. GW leads the series 57-31, but the two school's have split the last 44 meetings. Richmond has won 10 of the 19 Atlantic 10 games between the two teams.
- The Spiders are 9-3 at home this season and is 38-7 in its last 45 home games. Richmond is looking for 10 home wins for the 5th time in the last 7 years and the 19th time in 40 years in the Robins Center.
- The Spiders are turning the ball over just 11.2 times per game, which leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks 14th in the nation.
- Richmond finished the last two seasons 13-3 in A-10 play and the Spiders are 37-13 in the last 50 games against A-10 teams. The Spiders are 32-12 in the last 44 A-10 regular season games.
- Redshirt freshman Wayne Sparrow has come on strong as of late scoring 7 points in 21 hustle-filled minutes vs. Duquesne and following that up with a career-high 10 points, making 4-of-5 field goals and 2-of-3 threes, along with grabbing 5 rebounds in the win over La Salle. Sparrow is averging 8.5 ppg and 5.0 rebounds in the last 2 games.
- Freshman Kendall Anthony scored 21 points against Duquesne last Saturday for the fourth 20-point game of his young career. Anthony has scored in double-figures in 20 of his 25 collegiate games and is 2nd on the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game. Anthony has scored more points as a freshmen then Johnny Newman and Kevin Anderson, who are 1st and 2nd in all-time career scoring at Richmond.
