Wilkes Leads Spiders at Wexford Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The University of Richmond men's golf team finished up play at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Tuesday, carding a final round team score of 306 (+18) to end the three-round tournament with a total of 917 (+53). With its score, Richmond tied William & Mary for seventh place out of 17 participating teams.
Headlining the Spiders' play at the Wexford Intercollegiate was sophomore Jack Wilkes, who carded a 54-hole total of 226 (+10) to earn his first collegiate top-20 finish, tying for 14th. Wilkes best round came on Monday, when the Roanoke, Va., native carded a 71 (-1). Wilkes finished the event with round of 77-78.
Finishing just four strokes behind their teammate in a tie for 28th were senior Brad Miller and junior Nick Austin. Both Miller and Austin finished with scores of 230 (+14). Miller had a great final day on the course, shooting a team-best 74 (+2) on Tuesday.
Rounding out Richmond's effort at the tournament were junior Daniel Walker and senior Jack Lessing. Walker tied for 44th with a score of 233 (+17), while Lessing finished in a tie for 81st with a three-round total of 243 (+27).
The University of Richmond Spiders men's golf team will be back in action on March 10-11 when UR will play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The two-day tournament will be played at the historic Pinehurst No. 6 course in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
