KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The University of Richmond Spiders women's golf team began play at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on Sunday, carding a first round team total of 317 (+29). The Spiders are tied for 17th out of 33 teams after the first day of the tournament.
Richmond has set itself up for a solid showing at the tournament. On Sunday, the Spiders played their first round on the Oak Point Course, which played harder on the first day than the Cougar Point Course. After 18 holes, 16 of the top 19 teams - including all of the top 11 teams on the leaderboard - played their first round on the Cougar Point Course.
Leading the way for the Spiders on Sunday was junior Caroline Lovette, who tied for 19th after 18 holes with a score of 76 (+4). Sitting just one stroke behind her after the first day as teammate Tracy Martin, who carded a 77 (+5).
Sophomore Viviana Perez had a nice first round on Sunday, tying for 93rd with a total of 81 (+9). Rounding out the Spiders' effort on the first day were sophomores Lauren Conder and Danielle Pinder, who each posted rounds of 83 (+11).
The University of Richmond Spiders women's golf team will continue play at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on Monday. Live stats for the second round can be found at RichmondSpiders.com.
